When opening a new project or loading a new DTM it can sometimes take a while to orient yourself and figure out (a) how big the thing you are looking at is, and (b) which way it is oriented.
Builds 2241 and 2246 introduces a couple of new options for rendering: A compass on the lower-right of the screen that always points in the direction of the Y axis (which is usually north when using a real-world co-ordinate system) and tilts so that it lies flat on the XY plane, and a scale at the bottom of the screen that intelligently shows what the scale of the scene is. If you are using a metric units, it will also seemlessly change units between µm, mm, cm, m, and km, to make the numbers displayed as close to 1 as possible.

Both the scale and the compass are active by default; to turn them on or off, click on the “Cycle Display Options” button
() to cycle between the following modes:
- No additional tools.
- Show XYZ Axes.
- Show Scale.
- Show XYZ Axes and Scale.
- Show Scale and Compass.
- Show XYZ Axes, Scale, and Compass.
Clicking again will cycle back to the first option. As mentioned, option 5 is the default, but whatever it is changed to will be remembered and becomes the new default.
